Why Choose Summer Creek Dentistry for Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings?

What Happens During a Dental Checkup?

Your dental checkup will be the first part of your appointment. If you haven’t received X-rays of your mouth within the last year, we’ll likely capture images so we can examine them to see if anything is developing beneath the surface of your gums. We’ll also conduct a visual examination of your teeth and gums in search of common signs of dental decay and gum disease, like gum inflammation. Many patients don’t notice, but during these visits, we do a thorough oral cancer screening as well.

If we find any signs of oral health problems from our checkup, we’ll discuss them with you. Before moving on to your cleaning, we’ll develop a treatment plan to make sure any cavities get filled and any other symptoms are addressed immediately so they don’t develop into more severe issues.

The last part of your semi-annual visit will be your dental cleaning. During this step, we’ll be using specially designed gadgets like our dental scaler, mirror, and polisher to reach the deepest crevices of your mouth that you can’t get to with a regular toothbrush. Tracing along your gumline, we’ll remove any sign of plaque or tartar. Once we’ve cleaned your entire mouth, we’ll floss between each of your teeth and polish them using a special gritty substance called prophylaxis paste.

The Importance of Routine Preventive Dental Care
